Week 8 Blog #2: MBA 6101: How is AI changing art

How is AI Changing Art?

AI, in general, is slowly becoming a regular part of our lives whether we realize it or not. As I was looking through articles, I came across one explaining how AI changes the way we see and make art. I never came across the fact that AI could take part in creating and analyzing art until recently. After seeing the advanced art, a question that I kept asking myself wast how AI art works? According to an article written by Aela, there are many tools and techniques that artists use to explore and expand their creativity through AI. They use AI to generate ideas for the artwork and use drawing tools and image style algorithms to create art. A technique that is commonly used for creating AI art is called Generative Adversarial Network (GAN). The purpose of this technique is used to work together to generate images that mimic a reference image provided by the artist. By using this, it can help create a variety of images quickly and efficiently and will give you a bunch of images to choose from. Another technique that stood out to me was Computer-Aided Drawing Tools. This tool allows artist to draw and paint digitally. You can use different colors, textures, styles to create your design and there are multiple tools that can help you to do it (2023). I believe this tool is a great way for artists to really use their creativity with all the different elements they have access to. There's also an option where you can redo your art if there was any mistake that was made. Nonetheless, AI has allowed artists to accelerate in their creative process, making a huge impact on the creation of art. By using all the different AI techniques and tools out there, artists have created and a drew images and paintings in a fraction of time. Through the speed and efficiency they are provided with, artists have more time to  create more art and test the limits to their imagination and creativity.

Although there are many benefits that AI can provide for artists, there are also negative aspects to it as well. AI can help artists come up with ideas, but it can also reduce the originality and diversity of art. As a result, the art created may not to be as interesting and less valuable. Not using the different techniques and tools that have been implemented for thousands of years can actually make the artist lose their creativity and rely on AI to help them. Not only that, but, AI can also replace human artists. Since AI is generating more unique and creative art pieces, people would be more attracted and interested in those. Does this mean we're never going to find the next Picasso or Van Gogh?
