What's stopping you from learning about AI
It's not rocket science to realize that most people don't do well with change. It requires an individual to step out their comfort zone, explore new habits, techniques, and come to new realizations. Without a doubt, people will try to avoid change and resist from letting any new ideas, advancements, etc from ruining their routine. However, having a negative perspective on change is what causes people to have the most setbacks in their personal and professional life.
In Todd Kelsey's book, "Surfing the Tsunami", he often mentions how ignoring, resisting, or rejecting AI is nothing but a deception on the economic reality (Kelsey, 2018). In other words, as individuals living in a fast-paced society, we need to have a willingness to evolve. As discussed in chapter 4 and 5 of his book, there are three suggestions Kelsey made towards responding to artificial intelligence: adapt (good), adopt (better), adept (best).
Resisting or rejecting resources that are relevant to you would only cause a loss of a significant source of revenue towards you. Nonetheless, it does not make sense to resist AI. With economic competition and other factors, past patterns and behaviors only indicate that AI is going to be highly adopted with time. In fact, there will come a time where people who choose to reject AI may be considered "AI amish people" (Kelsey, 2018).
In Kelsey's words, "Resisting, rejecting, ignoring may be sustainable on a small scale, in the short-term... it could be like choosing defeat" (Kelsey, 2018). Like everything else, it's important for individuals to accept the changes brought upon by AI, and learn to adopt this new ideology and use it to your advantage. When any sort of change comes into your life, and you don't think you could put up with it, ask yourself, "what's stopping you from reaching your full potential?".
